I built the full sized one from the original book. It weighs 90 pounds and has 14-1/4" diameter flywheels. You can watch it run here. It runs on Propane with the original mixer (not a carburetor)

That's really nice. Of course when I see any engine running, I wants to build one.

Well I have gotten sidetracked by designing and building a device for testing tensile strength of fly fishing leader material, will get back to work on this next week.

In the meantime I wish all a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a healthier 2021, 2020 has been a bummer. 😏

Now at the point of trial assembly. What a pain to assemble the #4-40 Acorn nuts, need to figure out a holding device for that small space under the guide mounts. The coin is a US Nickle ($.05) for scale.

Sadly :( I am reporting that Glen Christoffersen, my dear friend and machining partner has passed. He was well known in the Full Size Steam community, as such he had restored a full size Russell Steam Tractor, that I had the good fortune to have operated with him at many shows in California, additionally we both had a turn at being the Crew Chief of the 1905 150 HP Best steam tractor that was owned by the Oakland Museum of California, I know that he will be missed by all that knew him, here in the USA as well as New Zealand.

He came to my shop to learn what I could offer on machining, welding every Tuesday for the past 10-12 years. We were nearing the completion of his Parsell & Weed Horizontal Little Locos Model.
I will be completing it in his memory, and continue to post on its progress.

Sorry to hear about Glen's passing. Completing the engine will be a great tribute.
Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
Scott

The last couple years have been extremely busy, but I finally found some time to work on my Parcell and Weed engine.
Today was a big day, as I finally got it to run! I still have some work to do, but this is a great milestone.
The hit and miss mechanism isn't complete yet, but hopefully will be soon.
Thanks for watching. Scott

Starting this thread for personal enlightenment and to encourage my good friend who started the build.

1`st the background:
Glen has been using my shop for years coming by 1 day a week, learning machining while building this 1/3 scale model designed by Woody Sims, drawing by Todd Snouffer for Little Loco's.
Unfortunately Glen has been having vision issues (macular degeneration), being that these parts are quite small he & I are working to complete it. When done, we believe it will be a handsome engine!

As I customarily do I am redrawing the engine in Solidworks, for two reasons; one to become better at SW, two to get my head around how to approach, fabrication and assembly.

Will be posting about once a week for others who may be building this engine as well as to gain insight for those further along than we are, positive participation is encouraged.
I think I posted this ~ 6 m0s ago
