I am building George Britnell’s Holt 75.
In order to keep it as close as possible to the original design my question is were socket cap screws or hexagon heads used in its construction?

I don't know if you are referring to the original engines, the Cole model kit or George's model. But I would say to look original hex head bolts and nuts would be in order. I am building the Holt to George's plans and I am using socket heads screw temporarily during construction but will change them out at final assembly.

Studs in a lot of cases not bolts. Also think of the shape of the nuts as off the shelf mass produced ones will be a bit flat and oversize if you want it to look right buy or make scale ones.

Should be enough photos of the real thing on the net to look at and see what is required.
