Dad was a tool and die maker extraordinare.....he ordered a small Atlas 6" lathe 10100 and lots of parts to do work at home when he retired.
Unfortunately he passed away long before retirement, 3 pack a day habit will do that to you, and I was left with the new, still attached to the shipping pallet, unit and boxed accessories.....which have been sitting in my basement for longer than I want to recall.
I'll never get to the point of using this unit but wondered if there's much of a call for it by home model engine machinists here, or if there's another forum I should go to?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice
Bill

Gordon....appreciate your willingness to provide this information.......
Rod.....I'll have to think about the price, but having shipped many a 'large' remote control aircraft (my main interest) I know that shipping has only gotten more expensive over the past couple of years, especially when what one is shipping is:
a) Large,
b) Heavy, and
c) Going a long distance
If anyone has suggestions on a suitable mode of transportation I'm all ears
Bill

I keep seeing people talk about shipping big things via Fastenal, I don't know any more than that about it, but if you come up with a fair quote I think we could do business. My small lathe isn't feeling well & that's an understatement!!

Have you came up with a number yet I live in southeast Iowa and could pick it up if the price is right.
Thank you Tom

I see the Atlas 6" lathe show from time to time on out local classified ads and they go fast, yes there is following for Atlas stuff, be it a lathe
or shaper or mill or drill press. You will not have any trouble selling it..

Re fastenal shipping.
I've done fastenal ship before. It's pretty straight forward. Crate up and take to local Fastenal depot. You will need to know the fastenal closest to buyer. Once there, (ship time varies as its filling up existing trucks going that way) they call the reciever to pick up. Want to say I paid 250 for a crank, rods and pistons, a set of aluminum heads and the valve train parts from midwest to az.

I was looking at everything listed for it, thinking my Elf-6 engine casting set project might get started~

If your goal is to get maximum dollar, list it on eBay with a minimum bid of $800 to $1000. If your goal is to see it used the way your father would have wanted to use it, sell it to someone who is going to appreciate it. If the price were low enough I would drive to Chicago to pick it up so that I could just make money on reselling it. Listing it on eBay does not mean that the folks here could not bid on it and buy it. There is a lively market for Atlas lathes. They have a reputation for being a good home work shop machine.
