B Terry Aspin Cartoon.jpg

One of many cartoons my farther did for the "Model Engineer" as well as articlesand books.

Still very apt today.

I recall making up my rear tool post to George Thomas's design from ME Volume 148.
It's subsequently been on all sorts of lathes since

People are still harping on endlessly about parting off. By the time that they have all these miserable failures, they could have made the simple little gadget mainly from the scrap box-- of parting off failures.

I have also given up the dreaded weed to drink more alcohol.

Best wishes

Norm

Being an artist I can appreciate the quality of the work yor father has done. Being a machinist I really enjoy the insightfulness he has presented with his work. I would really enjoy seeing others if you have them.

Never seen a cartoon about machining, before.
Parting get better with age, is a matter of learning.
Used to shiver at the thought, now is silky smooth on a Chinese 9x20
I did build the rear tool post but rarely use it anymore.
The greatest improvement comes from grinding a "gutter" on the blade top.
It makes the chip narrower than the kerf preventing jamming.

Creativity doesn’t have to end at the shop workbench. Thanks for sharing, and if you have more, I’m sure you’d have a dedicated audience!
