I tracked down a design for a test pump by firebird to this thread

https://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/threads/a-small-boiler.1820/page-7#post-22763

post # 133 on that page shows a general arrangement and a few posts further on, post #136, the detailed plan has been removed. I think its related to Photobucket issues.

Any chance of a link to where that plan lives now please or another suitable plan for testing small boilers ie < 2" diameter .

Am a novice and have done 2 very simple engines running on compressed air and have started to round up materials for having a go at boilers to go with the engines.

I made a boiler for my first engine. Personally I considered a mistake. I run it twice, it is a hassle to hook up to the propane bottle. When I display at shows it always run on compressed air, most venues wont allow live steam. I did not enjoy the building as much as machining the engine. Naturally is a very personal opinion but something to consider. If you make an engine so well that can run on lung power it will be more satisfactory and impressive that a live steam.

Thanks for the response Tornitore,

I found a plan a few posts further down on that same thread. All the parts were laid out on it .

Yes am happy to use lung power to turn over my first two engines, I wanted to learn how to silver solder and thought that making a boiler would be a good way to learn and making a test pump would also be a handy thing to know about.
