I am into Gauge 1 live steam locomotives. Mostly with poker burners. I am guilty of "Mechanically" trying to clean the jets. I am interested in a better way to clean them.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Lee

What about an ultrasonic cleaner? The unit that I got from Harbor Fright works great for small engine carburetor parts. Don't see any reason it wouldn't also work on a Gauge 1 locomotive burner jet, as long as the burner fits in the tank.

Hi Don,
Would just be the jet which is the size of a pencil eraser.
I was wondering about ultrasonic. Looking for a verified method. Dont want to spend money just to try it.
Thanks for the idea.

Lee:

When I got my ultrasonic a few years ago I think the cost was about $80-$90. I got the "big" one and I think the tank holds about 1/2 gallon of fluid. I think the smaller version cost about half that.

It works just jim-dandy. It cleaned up the bottom of a rusty B&S carburetor float bowl so well that I could see daylight thru it in many places. I think the rust was the only thing holding that float bowl together. Kind of explained why my neighbor had so much trouble keeping that engine running. I had to get a new bowl, but old one cleaned up nice and bright and shiny.
