I have just upgraded my little indexing head to a 6" vetex rotary table 90:1 ratio. I also upgraded to tb6050 stepper driver to a cheap Leadshine
closed loop driver knock off and a 36 volt 9 amp power supply. It appears to be working very well. You may notice two leads coming from the stepper , one
is an encoder. Suppose to be accurate and will bring up an error code ( flashes out a code on a red led ) if some thing goes wrong like missing steps or over shoot
or under voltage ect. View attachment 106978

Nice Johno,

I'm saving up to buy a 6" vertex rotary table for this same project but with a gecko driver and large stepper motor so I can later convert to full cnc with 4th axis.

Til then I am going to convert my simple indexer to a more refined model based on the venerable and cheap cheap cheap PF70-5C spin indexer. I wanted to be able to add a simple matching tail stock to some indexing operations.

Thanks Guy's.
Rod there is nothing I would like better than to convert my mill to cnc but learning Cad is a little off putting to me at the moment but your plasma cutter wow!
Are you going to it use for commercial or hobby. Some very serious material handling there.
Toronto the vertex is a nice r/table. I have a (forgot what you call them) front mounting 3jaw chuck bolts on through the front but I either need to make or buy a tail
stock for it sooner or later .
Cheers
John
