Just finished building a 1/4 scale Gade engine using Martin castings. What is the consensus on best fuel to use? Any thoughts on an electric starter to save fatiguing my wrists?

Many of us burn Coleman (or other brands) lantern fuel in our model hit and miss engines as it has less odor than regular gasoline.

Electric starting, with a drill or other motor is fine. However, once you've tweaked the engine in and it has some run time, it will probably start with an easy flip of the flywheels.

Good luck. Those are nice model engines.

Thanks, Chuck. I've spent a couple hours fiddlin' with the timing and can get a few pops, but it's not running yet. Using Coleman fuel. Nice buzz spark and good compression. More pops when the mixer is set rich. But no joy yet..

Hello Chuck, Recently there was a reference to a generator/ starter that was made by a member, and I cannot seem to locate it. I have a lot of interest in this as a means of constant loading for engines and the benefit of a simple stating mechanism. Could some one please give me more details Norm
