After our long trip to Bulgaria a few weeks ago, both my partner and myself found it rather hard to get about to and around the city of Varna, where we were staying. We had to walk a mile to get the centre, which caused us both a lot of pain and suffering, where we had to stay in the hotel a couple of days to get over it.

So two major issues were raised on our return.

The first was to sell her property in Bulgaria and then just go on jaunts that would take no more than a day by car to get to, so basically, the farthest we will travel in one go is to Southern Germany. We have actually got a perfect base for us, a small town called Greding in the lower half of Germany, in the Altmuhltal national park. From there, within a few hours we can travel to lots of other countries, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, and if we start out early enough, the top of Italy, have a look around and be back for an evening meal. I have stayed there many times in the past and really enjoyed it.

So then came the issue of getting about when we got there and in other countries as well. We decided on a pair of small mobility scooters.

This is the first time they have both been loaded into the car and connected up to charge from the car electrics.

We will leave them like this while we go out for daily days out in this country, but for traveling further afield, they will be folded, allowing more room to fit our cases in.

Problems solved.

Does anyone want to buy a cheap restoration project in Bulgaria?

Great idea John, we all have to face that problem eventually. You are so lucky to be based there, near all the other countries, I have to drive for about 4 1/2 hours to just leave the state we live in to cross the border to the next nearest state.

Paul.

John, what model car is that? It appears to be like a cavern in the back!

TC,

Skoda Octavia Estate 1.6TD., has the largest boot area in it's class.
With the rear seats folded down, then it is 2 coffins cavernous.

Paul,

I have been along this road, a few years back, as I was recovering well. Unfortunately, I have been slipping backwards.
It should take me about 12 hours driving time to reach my southern Germany base from home in the UK, then take things from there. A little bit closer than the 4 days there and 5 days back when we visited Bulgaria, 4,500 miles round trip.
