Some of you may have been following my build thread of a twin open crank engine
Well, this weekend I assembled the parts to assess some additions. I attatched a battery drill to the crank and proceded to test the rotation
Somehow, I dont know exactly, but with the drill going full pelt my middle finger placed itself between conrod big end and the side of the base casting.
OUCH I said
Eight hours at the local hospital and lots of stitches later I made it back home,
the picture shows the damage before the surgeon cut off all my remaining nail and sewed everything back together
Dangerous little buggers these engines

And to think I was whining about getting zapped by the sparkplug. I guess that’s why they don’t make them like that anymore. Can you imagine the liability these days?
Keep it clean and here’s hoping for a fast mend Dougie (you can fake it for the hoovering)
 
Snap .... but mine was caused by over zealous use of a Hacksaw.

I got my left hand in a Myford PR11 floor standing planer whilst boat building.

Fortunately the guy that planed more skin off my forearm was about to go to a place called East Grinstead where the RAF sent their aircrew after being 'Brewed up' in combat.

Lucky me- I have almost full mobility with nothing more than arthritis to contend with.

Mine was when I was spending some quality time in the shop with the lad making a Stuart beam engine. Needed to make some 3/8" by 3/16" stock for the entablature and cut it down from larger stock. I was merrily chatting to the lad while setting up for a finish cut on the surface grinder and didn't pay attention. I was surprised that fingers would fit through a 3/16" gap between wheel and mag-chuck...

Three hours waiting in the hospital and it should have grown out by the end of the year.

Well at least you finally trimmed that nasty nail :fan:
