Finally got my mini lathe and now i'm looking at for my first engine to build. I first thought maybe a full working scale model of a V12 Rolls Royce engine but after much thought I settled on Elmers Wobbler no.25. I've got the plans (http://www.john-tom.com/ElmersEngines/25_26_WobblerBoiler.pdf) and i've started to convert the measurements to metric. What I am a little unsure of is what the little letters in the circle mean? I'm guessing the "P" means press fit i.e a tight fit that will not spin. But what about the rest C,S,F, and B.

C means close fit, S = smooth, F= flat, B= braze or solder, P= press fit, L= loctite, MTP= model taper pipe, and last is a dash line meaning Packing.

I suggest you go to Johntom .com and download the appendix for elmers engines it explains all the symbols.

On the
John-Tom site where Elmers engine plans are available, at the bottom of the page is a link to the Appendix, which has an explanation of Elmers drawing symbols as well as info on engine cylinder designs.

Tin Falcon, thank you. I should've read that first. I feel stupid now.

I feel stupid now.

No need to you are not the first one to ask the very same question.

And not everyone knows the value of downloading the appendix.

Hi Swesson did you come down to earth big a BIG thump, from a Rolls Royce V12 to an Elmers wobbler LMAO. I been there done that thinking I'll build that, and suddenly reality sets in and you realise you may not be as good as you think you are, then logic tells you be better to work your way upto it. Good luck I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your build and following your progress.

Yeah, i laughed out loud at the humor in that too!

Same with the rest of life... make all the plans you want then reality sets in.
