Has anyone had experience in using honed hydraulic cylinder tube for making engine cylinder liners.

I can get 1.25" id x 0.25"wt hydraulic cylinder Tube that is honed

This makes sense to me as it saves time trying to make a cylinder and honing to a finish size.

It should no be to hard to mount the tube between centers and turn the od so wt = about 0.125"

High Goldflash.

I am no expert but just a wannabe about to jump in to build the 5 cylinder '''PiP Radial Engine'' . Drawing calls for 3/4'' x 0.035'' thick 4130 Steel Tube.
Good luck. Turning your own C.I. Sleeve and honing is not difficult. I have done 6 sleeves todate and DIY dozens of piston rings.

I have in my four cyl. engine these hydraulic cylinder tubes ID 20mm
-- no problem to run engine.

I would recommend that method. When I made Jerry Howell's FARM BOY engine, I used a 1.000" diameter hydraulic cylinder tube for the cylinder liner. To turn the tube's O.D. between centers, I made center drilled aluminum plugs. Jerry's plans called for an o-ring for a piston ring. Everything worked out well.

Tubing could also be mounted on a slightly tapered mandrel held between centres, taper only needs to be .0005", this method may help to stop any distortion on thin wall section.

Thanks for the Feed Back.
I will pursue using honed tube for cylinder and cross head sleeve
Designing an OH Valve 2 stroke that should be dead easy to make and uses a cam to operate the exhaust valve operating at engine speed . No gears to make "yippee" Bit like a double acting compressor with a spark plug on the head end with crank end being the scavenge cylinder.
Sort of like a half breed engine in layout .

Where do you find a small quantity seller on line?
I look up and found lots of data but no on-line sales with pricing.
In my experience companies that do not have an on-line sale are geared to industry.

Here Steel Merchants sell it. It is possible to buy cut lengths.
