Hi Jim,

I can't count the number of times that I've done things like that !
Still its not the end of the world.

Jim
Count that as a character building experience. One more thing to add to the "I won't do that again" list. Mine gets longer each day.
The extrusion is a guide for the cross head. Like the flanges on train wheels.

Hi Stan, Guys,

I don't know which of my lists is longer...

The "To Do or Not To Do"

That is the question. :hDe:

Hi Chaps

sorry I haven't been around, I've been super busy in real life and haven't had much time for machining. All I really have to share today is a great waste of time but I thought you might get a chuckle out of it :D

I started to make the valve rod and I've got some lovely stainless blanks that I thought would be ideal. So I started by taking the entire length down to the largest diameter.

Then leaving the larger section took the rest of the length down

Then I needed to turn a small section at the end down a further .5mm, and figuring I had the part suspended between centres I'd probably be OK.

Maybe not

I think I'll start with the small end next time and work my way left rather than right.

Ah well :D

Now lets see if you can straighten that out. :p:p:p

Seriously though. You needed a travelling steady for that job, and a light touch.

Haha :)

I'm going to make it in a two piece fashion, starting tomorrow! haha
