I have a chance to purchase a early 90's brass bed Sherline lathe.

So which do you think is better? and why?
Just talking about the machine not the tooling or options.

90's brass bed (presume very good condition) or brand new (both Sherline lathes)

The new bed is cast iron isn't it? Don't really know but I'd go with cast iron in a heartbeat over brass.

Ask yourself why would a manufacturer use the much more expensive brass , rather than cast iron.

You might give Sherline a call and ask them about the pros/cons of the older brass bed lathe. They are very good at customer support and could give you a good objective answer.

I would think brass would wear easier, cast iron would be much harder, just a logical observation please correct me if I'm wrong I'm always willing to learn something new.
