I am looking to make a boiler similar to one of the PM Research designs, and I was wondering which silver solder to use.

I am looking at the Harris Safety Silv 45 and 56. Is there a reason to use one over the other?

I am sure I have whatever torch set up I need to use either.

Look no further (except for price - eBay sometimes has good buys) Harris SS45 is an excellent standard silver solder for general boiler work. There's no need to go to the higher silver content, unless of course you find a better deal on that. I've forgotten the diameter of the PM boiler but I'll make a guess of 3". With some patience and careful heat shielding a 3/4" to 1" "TurboTorch" type plumber's tip might do the job but to make it easier on yourself I would use a 1" to 1.5" propane tip.

Thank you, I ended up getting a couple of the 45 kits from Home Depot.

Price and quantity (size) please and did you find it in plumbing supplies or tool section with the welding/brazing stuff? Sometimes the help at the big-box stores are clueless about where stuff is or whether they have it or what it's called in their computer inventory system. :wall:

I don't think they sell it in store,

On their site, look for
Lincoln Electric Safety-Silv 45 2-Piece Brazing Kit

The kit comes with 1 oz. of braze wire and 1.75 oz. of Stay-Silv white flux. $29.97

The 56 is $33 for a similar kit, they sell the cheaper solder too.

If the sizing is accurate, I did not think it was bad, and I bought two so I got free shipping being over $45.
