What scale might this steam tractor be? Front wheel diameter is 3.28125''
and the boiler casing is 10'' and 11/16'' long
Im thinking of building this with the help of my pal Levi who knows sheet metal fabrication and makes suits of armor and stuff
http://www.john-tom.com/ForSale/ForSale.html#TractionPlan
looks pretty complex, way over 100 parts to be hand make
might make it when I get a lathe, mill and other machines in the garage
thanks

nvm, found a detailed booklet that says in the beginning that this is a 3/4'' scale model

I downloaded the plans and when I looked at them they looked very familiar. Went into the old archives and dug out a set of plans my old boss gave me around 1980 or so. The are from Popular Mechanics Plans Library, Plans Number B-1272, Model Steam Engine designed by Rudy Kouhoupt. The date on them is 1975.
Has anyone made one of these?

The plans are available in book form from Village Press, under the name
"Rudy's Model Steam Tractor" with fairly detailed construction notes.

Somebody on here did a really nice build of this some years ago, went quite far beyond the basic version as drawn. Sadly I do not recall whom! The search
function MAY be your friend....

The book is on my shelf in the waiting to be built pile.....

If you build one, we want to see it as it progresses;)

cheers, Joe

I'm a bit skeptical about the easy build aspect I've been flogging away on my 1/3 scale case for a couple years and have a ton of support equipment to build it. the boiler would be you most technical part to get right not really alot of room to mess up I would think it ought to be a little heavier than 60 lbs for a decent thickness boiler
