Hi all. I am about to seat 2 valves 316 stainless steel 1/2" dia. into an aluminum head. I have found that hot melt glue holds a piece of dowelling to the valve quite well as I couldn't find suction cups that small. My question is, what is the best way to go about this. Should I use diamond paste, carbide or something else ? Also which grades ?

Do valves need grinding in if the machine finish is not too bad ?

Hi Herbie
if the finish is good then no, they don't need lapping. In the motor industry they do not lap in the valves. Not keen on the valves seating in an ali head. If you find you that you do have "Valve leakage" tooth paste or Brasso is the general path most seem to take.

I would prefer to see a harder seat, maybe even brass would be OK. I guess you are talking about the H &M . So guess it won't get a lot of running. After you get it running then it probably put on a shelf and say "done that"

Barry. Yes you are right. It is the h&m I am referring to. Thanks for the hints on the toothpaste and Brasso. I shall keep you informed.
