Check the pot FIRST! It is the source of many problems - it was on my micro mill.
 
SOLUTION:
I changed the potmeter, and it now runs perfect ;D
Of course, I did not get the excact correct one(5K instead of 4.7K), but I can live with that.
A ten-minute job after months of frustration :(

However "we" are all happy now, since my machines have been moved from a cold and damp tiny room in the basement, to a small, purpose-built mini-house in the garden. I even got to decide what logo to put in the floor!

I like that floor logo Thm:- although it reminds me of the 350 narrow case I had to sell in the fall, no more Ducks left..... Congrats on the solution, hopefully my X2 doesn't go down the same path - but now I know how to fix it!!!

Just to let you and others know i had same problems as you did, after reading what you done i also changed out the pot switch.. And it Solved all my problems also. However i was lucky enough to find a 4.7k pot on Ebay with a DPST switch attached just like the original. only a little bigger. sellers name is kwtubes (19971

Had exactly same problem with my X2. After playing with electronics for a few years, and I do mean playing. I was convinced it was the rheostat. So pulled the cover of and sprayed inside the rheostat best I could with WD40, followed by a dose of low pressure air to remove as much of the fluid as I could. It has now been faultless for the past 2 years.
 
I just got done doing this upgrade last night. What a difference! Mine was simply loosing oomph... I could stop the spindle by hand. I think it's been degrading over time for a while.... seems I was always having to crank up the RPMs to get it not to stall.

I could have tried adjusting the stock board but I already had one of the KBC boards on hand that I bought months ago planning to do the upgrade. I finally got frustrated enough to get off my bum and actually do it last night, LOL.

The auction on Ebay netted me 2 of the controllers, so I am debating whether variable speed on a drill press would be handy?

Anyway.... easy wiring swap and the wiring diagram posted in this thread was dead on (with the exception that my mill doesn't have a reverse switch).
