Wondering if anyone has any experience (good or bad) with the Lathemaster 5C collet chuck in the direct mount D1-4 style? I have a South Bend Fourteen that really needs one...Of course I realize its a you get what you pay for kind of situation.

Thanks for any input, Robert

Hi Robert;

I just had one delivered before Christmas. Just using imported collets, turn a diameter, remove and replace the stock at random, less than .001" TIR everytime I tried it. Good enough for me and has improved my accuracy over the three jaw. I'm happy with it, now need to buy more collets. Also my lathe is an import 12x36.

My 2 cents, Peter

Also when checking TIR, try it in all 3 cam pin positions and mark the chuck for the best resulting position.

I've had one for a couple of years and I love it. I started using it on a Lathemaster lathe but I bought a D1-4 adapter and I use it mostly on my Jet 13 X 40 lathe now. I consistently get .0005 TIR or less with the chuck. I have been totally happy with this chuck.
