just putting my farmboy together and i need a small compression spring.anyone have a good source for them it needs to be .093 dia, o. d. and .008 to .012 dia wire. i know i can make one but i do not have any music wire that size, so i would like to buy 2 or 3 one inch long. thanks jonesie

cheap plastic ball point retractable pens contain a nice one

thanks stuart, but they are a little to big on od. someone said to try a throwaway lighter spring thanks again. jonesie

guitar strings ? the solids come in quite a few diameters. john

Second vote for guitar strings. I've used .008 and .010" guitar strings for springs.

Marv's (mklotz) freeware site also has a program to calculate the mandrel size given the type of wire, wire dia, and spring dia. I've used it several times with good results but haven't tried anything yet under .020" dia wire size.

I made farm boy #003. I know what spring your looking for. The easy fix is find a disposable BIC cigarette lighter, The spring under the flint works just fine. I know of several people who have used this option. Me for one. Jim

thanks guys on using guitar strings.thanks to jim on the bic lighter, got one and the flint spring is just the ticket. hope to have it running soon. how does yours run. do you run it on coleman fuel, that is what i use for my powerhouse in the premium grade and plan on using for the farmboy. thanks again jonesie

Mine runs just fine. I run my Farm Boy on alcohol. Tried both and it seemed to run smoother and coast more consistent on the alcohol. I also have a double size Lil' Angel and it runs better on the Coleman fuel, go figure, so I still have to take both fuels to the shows.
