    bevel/vernier protractor use

I did look at the Chinese ones but found I could pick up a second hand More and Wright for the same price and I'm a fan of buying good quality use tools as I can always pop them back on eBay and get my money back if it doesn't work out. That's the idea anyhow, I seem to break a lot of them.

    bevel/vernier protractor use

Thanks for all the replies, my answer is in there, nice but not vital I gather. Yes, the combination gauge block sinus ones look very nice but I don't have a full set of gauge blocks. Found one for £30 without and bought it. With the attachment, they have all been twice that at least. If I can't...

    bevel/vernier protractor use

Thanks for the reply. Negative angles? By that do you mean under 90 degrees? And do you mean the protractor your using dose that or the bevel protractor I showed?

    bevel/vernier protractor use

To be clear they all seem to come with one adjustable straight edge that slides up and down if you loosen a nut and the angle is measured by holding this against one side and rotating the protractor’s fixed bar against the other. Here’s a picture still from a video of one measuring what I think...

    bevel/vernier protractor use

I need to pick up a bevel/vernier protractor of eBay but have not used one before. Watching some explanations on youtube it looks quite straight forward but one thing that has got me a little confused is if it can read angles below 90 degrees without the attachment. Most of the used ones on...

    Fixing TDI

The bushing is the brass cap I'm talking about but I think the hole is far too lose to hold it anymore and I never saw any split feature. If the Loctite dose not work again I'll have to think about making a new cap but it sounds like the kind of job that will sink to the bottom of the pile and...

    Fixing TDI

I have a Test Dial Indicator, it’s my favorite to use and is perfect shape except the hand or pointer fell off. There's a little post sticking up and a little brass cap that fits onto it so I bought a new hand, the old one broke, a watch hand. Fitted the hand to the cap with a little super glue...

    Shimming with foil

Thanks for the reply guys. I don't really know anything about shim stock certainly not that it came that thin, I'll look into it. Maybe better to buy the right stuff if they have it in the right thickness. I am using the plain shank near the head on a longer bolt, not the threaded part...

    Shimming with foil

I have a design I’ve been working on for some time and part of it is supported on 4 rollers. The rollers are polyurethane on aluminum hubs with 19mm x 8mm bearings. The Hubs are mounted on four long M8 socket head cap screws. But the unthreaded part of the bolts is about 0.2-0.3mm shy of 8mm on...

How to use a posilock collet holder?

Thanks for all the advice on how to correctly use and the advantages of this bit of kit. I fitted a tool and did some light cuts today then I went through the boxes and sure enough, there is a large selection of threaded tools. Whether it's better than the R8 system I'm used to I can't say, but...

How to use a posilock collet holder?

Thanks Mike. I didn't even realize there was a thread inside those collets. all most all of the tools he had were straight shank so I presumed the collet would take them. I'll see if I can get it to work next time do9ing as you say, though it's not quite so appealing now I know that most of the...

How to use a posilock collet holder?

I don't know how to put pictures on here but I uploaded them to an image hosting site and here's a link to them there: https://postimg.cc/gallery/13qjrn7g0/ Hopefully, this works.
