    Another Knucklehead Build

Thanks for taking the time to post the R&D and associated CAD models Terry. Very interesting work and a great outcome. The plastic carb video was an eye opener in illustrating how the wet mixture is.

Monarch 10EE Lathe & Browne & Sharpe Bridegport Mill

It really depends on the condition of the sliding surfaces and the electrics of the 10ee. That said, the 10ee is arguably the best manual lathe ever made. If it runs and is in decent condition then the price could be significantly more than 1k.

Broken change gear shaft on a grizzly 4003g lathe

Taiwanese is a level above Chinese. A significant difference at this level of lathe. An example at the higher end is the Taiwanese hlv-h copies. Beautiful quality.

Broken change gear shaft on a grizzly 4003g lathe

I’m curious to know if this is correct. I have the same lathe albeit with the designation AL960b and it’s made in Taiwan. As far as I know, all Sieg gear is made in China. I have seen references to to g4003 being made in Taiwan. It makes me wonder if Sieg have their own Chinese copy of this lathe?

AL320G and HXX GCS900-3D - Lathe DRO Setup

For the benefit of anyone that comes across this thread hunting for GCS900 troubleshooting, if you get "DROERR" or the like (random characters etc..) and really unreliable display then you should check the power supply. These units have a mains transformer circuit under the cover. Mine was...

    Quarter Scale Merlin V-12

If only Terry could somehow get this content into a book. I would be the first to place an order. The content here is truly astonishing. This should really be preserved.

    Face Cutter Woes

What type of machine are you running and at what rpm and feed? I have that cutter (APKT) in multiple sizes. It's a mongrel without horsepower. In fact most indexable milling cutters are. You will do better with name band inserts over the Chinese supplied ones that come with the cutter. The best...

    DRO scales

I have glass scales on two milling machines. Both run flood coolant. One set is thedrostore and the other is 25+ year old Sony. Neither gave ever missed a beat. The Sony scales were filthy when I purchased my Deckel FP2. No issues and amazing accuracy.

    Silver-Solder Question

Bunnings sell the Oxy cylinders. You will likely need a new torch. The oxy needs its own valve to meter the flow.. The MAPP torches that I have owned only have one valve.

Looking For Machinst For Various Projects

I hope I'm wrong but I get the distinct feeling this is a request for unpaid work. Why would the OP not go to a local job shop and get this done? Something does not quite feel right. Zero history here and soliciting "exciting" work, secretive project, no care for geographical distance. Currently...

    Silver-Solder Question

And hence the Oxy MAPP. No bottle rental. Disposable cylinders.

    Lathe Types

I have the Australian version - AL960b. Not a bad lathe but would be better if it had a carriage stop and a clutch. That said it is a solid machine that can take a serious cut in steel with carbide.

    Silver-Solder Question

Waymill is the companies name. I usually buy via their Ebay listings as their site does funny things on the international shipping calculations. They sell a number of different soldering pastes. From "Easy" (lower temp) through to Hard high temp and 75% silver...

    Silver-Solder Question

I use Oxy/MAPP for hard soldering. I also use the high silver content paste. The little oxy/MAPP torch does a great (fast) job that risks melting brass if I'm not careful. Cylinders are throw-away and purchased from the hardware store. They last remarkably long given their small size...
