    Parting tool chatter

I agree with Awake and tornitore45, plus good ideas rom WOB, Fabricator, gpldstar31, Peter Twissell, and smith door except for the thin blade part. The OP has not posted again so I wonder if he found the problem or is still having the problem. I always use slow to really slow rpm and hand feed...

    Narrow grooving

+2 on post#9. Long flat tip screwdriver tips. Cheap! Grind in back rake, plus width, plus side clearance …. Mess up ….try again......you did not lose much. Real limited use,..but it works!

What is the best paint for an old machine restoration.

I rebuild a lot of old machinery and the paint is going to get messed up and stuff caked on it and worn and chipped, etc... no matter how clean you keep it. That is if you use it...… So to settle on one color to keep a little order in life I settled on Battleship Gray. I went and got a...

    Up in flames....no pun intended.

One of the best kindling pieces for starting a fire is part of an 8" big fluffy old used polishing pad from a bench grinder type polisher. I had repaired one and had it sitting on the floor way back under the workbench. Was mig welding and I guess a bb landed on it. When I finished I kept...

    Heat treat rings

As far as looking for a kiln, you might try a stained glass supplier. They use them after using special paint on glass then put it in the kiln to melt it into the glass. Don't remember where I got it from but I bought my wife one years ago when she did stained glass. It was an electric one about...

    Flat Belt Reversing Mechanism

You might want to take a look at an old flat belt log sawing machine and how they reversed the carriage for the next cut. I have an old sawmill in pieces that I would like to put together one day. Some pieces are broken so I will have to research that subject one of these days. For power it uses...

What WW2 hardware would you save?

I am guessing that when he was on the S.S. A.P.Hill and S.S Fort Frederica they were keeping all the ships fueled that were bringing all the troops home so probably the only thing to worry about are underwater mines that had not been cleared yet.

What WW2 hardware would you save?

Cliff20, Thank you for the info but t looks like what I ran into before. He, Lelldon Perry was a Marine Engineer working in the engine compartments of Merchant Marine Tankers. Not sure but might have become Ensign. He served on the S.S. Mobilight from June 23,1943 to September 15, 1944, then the...

What WW2 hardware would you save?

Make records easy to access online for the Merchant Marines. My dad was on Tanker ships duringWW2 and died when I was four in 1956. I have his service records and ships he was on and would like to get certain Merchant Marine Tanker ships logs just to see where he was at certain points during his...

Cheap soft jaws for a 3 jaw chuck

Set screws were what I was thinking also. Two on each side of each jaw. You could even mark where the set screws hit the jaws and use a Dremel or whatever to grind a little slot or hole to help them hold.

    Scrooge style Milling machine

Keep hunting for a real mill. I converted a Kao Ming KMR700S radial arm drill to also function as a mill. I made a great deal on it while hunting for a mill. I am still hunting for a deal on a real milling machine like a Bridgeport type. You just can't beat them.

For a down and dirty depth of cut for 60 degree U.S. threads.... 0.866 divided by number of threads you want. Should get you there...
