    Poppin Vacuum Engine

It was a fun little engine to build. I'm currently remaking the crank from bar stock as the one I used was built up from drill rod and some key stock. I'm hoping that the one piece crankshaft will turn a little truer than the built up one. Fingers crossed, it's a bit fiddly when it's so small...

    Marks Holt 75

Very Nice work, an excellent start. I'll be watching as you progress. I just finished a Poppin vacuum engine on Friday and the little crankshaft was difficult and it only has one journal. I bent it on the first try and ended up making a built up crank.

    New Lathe: Feed direction?

The lathe I learned on in school was like this. You get used to it but it is a pain.

    Dynamo build by castings

I would be interested in a set of casting depending on what it would cost. Would make an excellent addition to any engine project. What is the designed operating speed, RPM?

    Plans

I'm presently building one of Jerry's engines. The plans are well made and easy to follow with a decent explanation of each drawing. I'm working on the Bill 1903, but it's on pause until the weather warms up and my shop gets a little more hospitable. The only issue I have had is that the Bill...

Tool dig in. Part, slide and moral totally shattered.

Hauk, I've been fighting my parting tool as well, as can be seen here: http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/index.php?topic=14214.msg162798#msg162798 After I replaced my parting tool holder, since that's what I ended up breaking, I read your post here and used some of the advice. Having...

    Co-Axial Indicators

I use an edge finder for locating parts in a mill. They're easy to use and cheap. Fairly accurate. If I need to be more accurate I put some masking tape on the edge of the part and then move the end mill up until the tape gets cut. Most masking tape is approx. 2mil in thickness. Easy to do...

Bill - 1906 Four Cycle Gas Engine Build

Well I'm back, I was deployed for a few weeks but have returned home. I also found sometime over the last couple days to spend sometime in the shop. I decided to make another attempt at the cylinder. That darn parting tool caught up again only this time the setup in the chuck was strong enough...
