    Mini Lathe Tips

My end goal engine is a 1/6 scale mitsubishs A6120VDe engine from 1936. I don't have any tooling or machinery, or a source for metal, as some have asked so far. I'm looking to take my inaugural step into engine making. For the forseeable future I will not have a shop, so a small machine is a...

    Mini Lathe Tips

To answer some questions: I am looking at Lathes from 12-16 inches mainly, anything longer seems to be much more expensive. I would like to be able to spend 500-1000 dollars for a lathe that has reasonably acceptable accuracy, or that can be easily modified to those standards. To be honest, I...

    Mini Lathe Tips

Hello! I'm wanting to start machining on a lathe, but dont have the room for one right now. Until I can live somewhere with a nice garage or yard, I have decided to buy a mini lathe to at least practice some basic machining. However it seems like most mini lathes on the market have accuracy...

    Diesel

Wow that's an amazing engine. Is there a way I could get in touch with it's creator?

    Diesel

Okay thanks. Do you have a link to any of what you've mentioned? I might like to try to build a 1/6 inline 6 diesel with a stroke dia. Of 0.85 inches.

    Diesel

So I've read in a number of forums that diesel is not suited for use in small engines because the level of compression needed for proper combustion cannot be achieved. Is this true, and if so, to what extent? Would, say, a 1/10 model of a v 12 diesel not achieve proper compression, but a 1/4...

    WW2 Japanese engine

Yeah, I read about about how extremely difficult it would be to make a small diesel, but I figured since the page listed it as a "Diesel Converter" I would just say diesel and keep it simple. But thanks for looking out for me.

Yeah, I'm toying around with the idea of converting the engine to diesel with these things http://www.davisdieseldevelopment.com/gallery/closelook.htm, not sure if they will work though, I will have to look into it more. -James

I/6 scale. The dimensions will be around 2 feet five inches ( .73 meters) long, 1 foot 1.5 inches ( .34 meters ) wide, and 1 foot 2 inches ( .36 meters ) high. The engine compartment will be about 10 and 5/12 incheswide, 12 and 1/6 inches long, and 6 and 1/3 inches tall. -james

    WW2 Japanese engine

oops, double:p:p I plan to have a fan and there are two vents on top of the tank and on the side where the engine is to keep it cool. I will probably do some tests with it inside a closed box and see how long it takes or it to almost overheat. If it is a long time, I won't worry to much about...

lol. unfortunately thats not me in the tank, just a friend of mine. He is the reason that I decided to build the tank, especially after he let me inside the thing.

Actually the tank I'm building is the only RC tank that I possess, and even then it's in bits in pieces. But I'll be sure to post some pics of it once things really get going, but for the moment I'm still trying to get all the necessary equipment and materiel. -James
