I have resumed building this engine after a four year break, just wondering if anyone knows how many sets of castings Maury made of this engine, for the record mine is number eight.
Thanks to all for your replies. I have a tool post grinder and perhaps a thin metal cut off disc wIl rough the grooves and finish with a carbide tip. Maybe a CBN slot drill for the hole? Dave, was that rake that you ground positive or negative?
I need to machine two shallow grooves in the OD of a 6304 2D deep groove ball bearing and also a shallow hole for a locating pin. This is to replace a bearing that has been unavailable for twenty years or more. One groove takes the thrust of the bearing, the other allows oil flow and the pin...
Finally finished the Challenger V8 from Coles and what a challenge it was for me. I still need to make a few improvements to the carburettor but it is as good as done. It can sit on the shelf for a while now as I have started another Holt 75, I sold the first one I built so maybe this one will...
Thanks for your comments. The build notes that came with the castings mentions the possibility of one bank being smoky and suggests that a reduction in oil pump size may help however I'm not really keen on that path. It has had very minimal run time and I suspect that the rings have not bedded...
I have just managed to get my Challenger V8 to the running stage but have a few questions that those who have gone before me may be able to help me with.
I have built it to the plans, that is, without oil rings and when viewed from the front of the engine the left bank of cylinders is smoky when...
Holt engine castings and prints. I have built one of these engines and intended to build a second but this will not happen so the set of castings and prints are for sale. Includes a completed crankshaft cut from solid. Price is $900 AUD, plus buyer pays freight, PM me with any questions.
Mark,
It is almost finished, needs a carburettor and some tweaking to get it running. Have put it to one side for the moment to work on a Forest and Gallice from Lone Star Engines.it was a lot of fun to build. Do Coles Power Models still sell them?
Cheers
Graeme
It appears I am well behind the...
Just found Maury's announcement on Model Engine Maker. I would suggest buying whatever you can from him, you will not be disappointed. What a loss to the hobby this is.
I am about half way through my build, castings are brilliant as are the drawings. It is not a beginners engine. Sorry to hear Maury is closing down, does anyone have any more info?
I think my castings were set number eight, I will have to check.
