How can I find a good home for my father's steam engine

Not trying to dissuade you from selling it, but please think about this and what a few members posted. My father passed away in 2006 and left me with three things. A 3' long sailboat he carved from a solid block of wood while in the Boy Scouts, his flight manual and tech book on the P-47...

What to charge to thread a rod

Very South Louisiana. 15 miles north of the end of the road. South of New Orleans (yes there is land south of New Orleans), south of Houma. Wow seems I'm south of everything except the Gulf of Mexico! Hurricanes pretty much move the Gulf up to us though. Actually live in Chauvin...

What to charge to thread a rod

I'd go with barter. When I get someone that wants to pay me for doing something that keeps me busy and HELPS, I talk barter. Usually get more material to turn or weld for other little projects of mine.

What to charge to thread a rod

I do the same for the older shrimpers around here. They have only one boat and it's a small one. They catch enough to pay the bills and stay active. Sometimes those parts are outrageously priced and they simply don't have the funds to purchase one or the seasonal time crunch is upon them. I...

    Drill America end mills

Over the past two or three years I have used my milling machine rather infrequently. But when I use it, it seems I am going to town for a month or so like crazy. I've noticed the new end mills have been lacking in performance and just figured it was me. Not staying current with my techniques...

    Buying a lathe

I purchased a Smithy Granite XT Max 1340 in January this year. The HF 9x20 it replaced is 15 years old and I pushed it beyond its capacity more time than I remember. The Smithy is a mill/lathe combo and has met all of my needs. Didn't think a combo unit would work for me, but I am not...

    Know where your fingers are---

While I was active duty we were told, never ever try to catch something you or someone else drop. Let it hit the floor and come to a rest. You never know what may happen when you move quickly in a surprise and get your hand caught in a piece of equipment or knock your head on the corner of a...

    Lathe identification

This is what I found but you would need to contact them and find out how readily parts are available. https://anhuiboxiao.en.made-in-china.com/product/ZXemKBSbpirw/China-Precision-Bench-Lathe-Machine-for-Threading-CZ300-1-CZ1237-.html Grizzly Industrial is another option. I know their parts fit...

    Another Lathe Selection Thread

Just want to ask if you are located near South Louisiana. I have a HF 9x20 Lathe, HF mini mill, and a Craftsman Atlas lathe sitting on the shelves as display items. Each works but need a little cleaning to remove the dust and I can tell you what mechanical is needed. Anyway, let me know if...

Four stroke three cylinder radial of my own design

I LIKE it. I don't have the knowledge to design an engine and you impressed the heck out of me.

    Drafting linen

You can go to engineersupply.com Not many people carry it any longer but I was told this is where the local engineers get theirs from. Looking at what they use reminds me of the "tracing" paper I used when I was a draftsman as it made excellent blueprints. But the just may have or give you a...

    Drafting linen

I wish I could help. Everything had pretty much gone digital today and now true drafting has essentially become a lost art. I still have a set of Leroy pens, bottle of India Ink, mechanical pencils, gum eraser, and tip sharpener. Anyway I digress, I still stay in contact with the company I...

    Brazing Fixture

Amazing how something so simple can take so much thought and time to actually produce. Very nice idea.
