    Ergonomics/reference material? (Somewhat OT)

I was more looking for a website, but since it's the weekend now, I suppose a trip to the local library will do for me. Thanks!

    Ergonomics/reference material? (Somewhat OT)

I know this is a little off topic, but since this is a generally good place for information, I thought I would ask... Can anyone point me to a general reference table/webpage for ergonomic information for building things? Mostly, measurements dealing with spacing and distances. I'm trying to...

    Let there be light!

As an update to this thread, I ordered and received the larger of the two sizes Reggy (tricled) had in stock. It will be pretty much a perfect fit on my SX3 (Grizzly G0619). The OD of my mill spindle is 2.675" with the ID of the LED ring being just slightly larger than that at around 2.74"-2.75"...

    D-bits

lampy, I've used both, and mostly I use W-1....but that's because I'm a bit parsa...parse....parsta....cheap, and from the suppliers I use, W-1 is typically about 15-20% cheaper. Other than that, I haven't noticed much difference in hardness, but to be honest, generally I work with aluminum and...

    lucite?

There's ALL sorts of plastics out there. With a block that big, it's probably lucite/perspex, but it could be lots of other things - polycarbonate, cheaper sorts of acrylic, even cellulite (unlikely). I suspect the only way to know for sure is to fiddle with bits of it and see how it machines...

    Work holding fixtures

Yeah, I have one of those, bought it years ago for clock staking work. Mine was from S LaRose (sadly, out of business now), but here's a similar one: http://www.timesavers.com/catalogmain2.asp?pproductid=20049&submit1=search That tool is handy for certain needs, but the OP has hit on the...

    eBay scammer - another one?

Well, PLR stands for Private Label Rights. It's supposed to mean that he has made arrangements with the original author/owner to distribute the plans, in this case.... It might even be true. Hard to say, though, and honestly, it's about as likely that he just heard that if he put that at the...

    eBay scammer - another one?

Sad. This sort of thing is pretty common anymore, I'm afraid. Example: I bought a used Honda Civic a few years back - so like any good mechanic, I figured I should try to find a copy of the service manual. I don't know what was more disappointing - the fact that I found several hundred CD's...

    Reamers essential?

Oh, and if noone told you this... Never never never turn a reamer backwards (counterclockwise.) Will ruin it in a heartbeat. Don't ask me how I know that. :-\

    Reamers essential?

First of all, welcome to the hobby! Reamers are handy and relatively economical if bought "as needed". What I might suggest is rather than buying a set, try to get a few common sizes in HSS reamers of good quality and go from there (the pure carbide ones are way more than you need to bother...

Inexpensive source for diamond lapping compound

Nice! Thanks for the link. I've been a fan of www.eternaltools.com for diamond bits etc (I have an awesome set of gravers he made), but like the "big boys" he only sells diamond paste in 5 g tubes. (Plus he's in the UK, so shipping's not cheap.) Rio Grande's got a similar kit for $31 -...

    Are we the fringe?

I think I would go with "subculture", not "fringe". :D The average media-soaked human these days doesn't have any appreciation for the process of how things come to be. They just arrive at the door (FedEx overnight) and are used until they break, then discarded and upgraded. This is a big...

    Let there be light!

Ditto! Details, please! For example, what mill is this on? What's the ID and OD of the light ring? Power draw? (I'm assuming they're 12VDC, coming from an automotive application.) This looks like an easier version of a project I've seen on madmodders.com...

    Seig Nano Tools

Interesting. I suspect that for most work at that size, runout might be an issue. There's no listing of runout in the specifications on the LMS site, and at that pricepoint....well, YMMV. OTOH, the collet set shown as an accessory are ER-11's, and they appear to have pretty tight tolerences...

Graver Making & Hand Turning DVD by Bill Smith

I'd recommend the Sherline documents - I used them to make myself a set of gravers some years ago and have used them ever since. I will say this, though - you must have a decent T-rest if you plan to use gravers. That having been said, Bill Smith's books are great stuff - full of little tips...
