It's a shame this thread has degenerated but it's by no means unusual on Internet forums. There are many "experts" out there but readers would be wise to treat any information given with some scepticism until they can confirm safety or suitability for their own particular purpose. This should go...
Just in case the OP is thoroughly confused this is a good article on the subject.
I should have posted the link earlier as John is an experienced machinist who really knows his stuff. He's also a thoroughly nice bloke who used to post on here a lot but that's another story...
I use the same flycutter tool on all metals simply because it works. If I'd had any problems with specific materials then I'd do what I normally do and try something different. I suppose I originally expected the same tool to work on everything though because I'd never seen end mills or slot...
Yes, same here. I use exactly the same flycutter for aluminium alloy and brass. I used to use the same for steel as well but the insert tool negates frequent sharpening so I use that!
This works well for me.

I also made a tool to use round carbide inserts as well for hard materials.
Agreed, all the data you need as I remember although it's a large document.
This may help as well.

Gosh that is bad Al. Airsoft guns used to be easy to buy over here but the change in the law put many companies out of business. You can still buy them without joining a club but the choice is very limited and they have to be in bright colours like pink or blue!
I'm having some trouble with the thumb hole on my ball and the guy who runs the pro shop is on holiday. I've read that vent holes are quite commonly drilled to prevent suction problems. I think a vent may help as the hole size is otherwise ok. I have a 6x26 mill so I can do this myself. Has...
You're doing great but work faster, I can't wait to see this finished! Any chance of a video of it in action when it's finished?
Don't feel bad JJ, as I'm sure you know we have it really bad here in the UK, they even stopped us buying Airsoft guns unless you belong to a club...
You might be getting on a bit Norman but you're not grumpy. :) I very rarely sharpen drill bits as I'm not very good at it and quite frankly it's not worth the time learning when drill bits are so cheap, I'd rather drill holes with my time. Having said that I've read time and again that the...
I made this for 12mm round Lathe inserts, it works very well. I really like the finish I get on Alloy with a nice sharp HSS flycutter but they wear quite quickly on tougher stuff. This carbide cutter holds it's edge on even quite hard steel.
This is the Tangential Flycutter I made for...
Yes, it said that in the link ;)
One of the guys I used to work with when I was a mechanic many years ago also used to replace knackered engines in NSU's with Ford V4's using a special bellhousing adaptor but that's another story.
