    Black Widow V8 difficulty?

I’ve been wanting to build a V8 engine at some point along the way, although I’m currently in the middle of building a 5” Lion at the moment but there is an opportunity for me to buy the castings and drawings for the Black Widow V8. I’ve been trying to do some research but there is very little...

    Steam Oil

I’ve recently acquired a 3” Burrell Traction Engine and I was wondering what steam oil people recommend. I was also wondering do people use thicker oil for the pots? The reason I’m asking is because I’ve always had locomotives and the Burrell seems to have larger contact area and obviously oil...

    straight 6 turbo

As I mentioned in your build thread, this engine is magnificent

    straight 6

That’s even more impressive being your own design. I bet it was a huge relief when it fired up and sounded like that! Would you ever consider making plans to sell or perhaps the 3D models? I’d suspect there would be a lot of interest from the modelling community.

    straight 6

That’s absolutely beautiful, great craftsmanship and sounds as good as it looks. Were these built to plans or is it your own design?

    5” Gauge Lion

It’s hard to say for definite as it’s not been a continual process, a bit of work has been done on the frames and other jobs came up but it’s perhaps taken 6-8 months roughly. The radius on the spokes was done using a corner radius end mill and then some filing on all surfaces to get a good...

    5” Gauge Lion

Thanks for the kind words! I estimate for these 4 wheels there will be roughly 200 hours into them. I had considered trying to get them cast but due to how thin the wheel spokes are they’d prove to be very hard to get a solid casting unless they were pressure cast. We also explored avenues of...

    5” Gauge Lion

Small update All four of the main wheels are now completed except for the profile which needs to be turned. It’s taken some time to machine these between other jobs and illness but at least the larger bulk is almost done. They need some more filing and smoothing prior to being painted but...

    Conley engine casting set

Where in the world did you find those?! You’re very lucky. I’ve often wondered why no-one has replicated these castings since they seem to be in such high demand.

    Hoglet Cam Gear

Yeah I used loctite retaining compound (I think it smells lovely). Allowed it to set and not had any problems with it at all. I have had it off a few times but had to apply heat to get it off.

    Another PeeWee

Brilliant work Edi! I really want to make a peewee as there’s so much information and build threads on the internet, I really need to finish this locomotive that I’ve just started. Looking forward to the end result

10 Engines in 4 Hours by Non-Machinist Possible?

I honestly don’t think it would be possible for people who have no experience. You’d have to teach them how to safely operate the machines, change cutters, climb milling vs conventional milling, speeds and feeds, tolerances etc There’s an awful lot to learn especially if you want a working air...

Any plans for a v-twin small engine around?

I agree with Aerostar55 regarding th hoglet V Twin. I think the back issues are around $14 and it’s nicely laid out and relatively simple to follow for a first engine. There are a few threads knocking around, have a look in the showing them, finished projects section of the forum.

    Hoglet with Howell carburetor

Congratulations on a lovely working engine! Yes I’ve got as per the drawings 2 viton O rings on the main shaft with the air filter on the front (picture below). It’s a good idea as over time it’ll suck up lots of small dirt which may damage your piston rings. I also run mine on Coleman fuel...

Cirrus V8 rotary valve engine build 2x scale up

Congratulations on getting it running! It always feels like a huge weight is lifted off your shoulders when they fire up. Best thing for videos is to upload them to a YouTube account. If you’re struggling you could e-mail the videos to me in a zipped format and I can upload them to my channel...
