    My Daughters First Engine

Neat! My nephews are interested but live too far away to make a go of it I think. I'll be watching with interest.

    swarfrat VATOC engine

This last week I completed enough of swarfrat's VATOC engine http://swarfrat.com/TheVATOCEngine.htm to have it run. I may bling it up a bit or I may build another one but up the scale a bit and then bling them both. This was a fun project and I don't think it would be beyond anybodies ability...

My first engine, but wow is it noisy.

Thanks all. I think I'll make my signature ... It's not "It runs BUT it's noisy" It's "It runs AND it's noisy" -Thanks CFellows for clarifying this.

My first engine, but wow is it noisy.

Great set of plans. It knocks and is pretty loud but it runs. :-) As our UK cousins would say I'm quite chuffed. It's from the HMEM EZ build plans. I didn't do a build log since world+dog has done this one and it's a pretty well documented build. It's pretty noisy, but it runs...

    New Video

Way cool!! Question. The stuff you sprayed on then lit. I'm assuming it's to help seal the sand for a smoother finish. Is this correct? What is it? some sort of graphite and.... alcohol?? A very lite grade of oil?

    Differences in supposedly same material

Hi Brian, Very interesting. In visualizing how cold rolled is formed I can see where the initial compression could affect the steel's properties but I'm not sure how the end of the bar could be affected. I'm trying to think how compression differences would change when approaching the end of...

    Differences in supposedly same material

I'm pretty new to this so I don't know if it's something I'm doing or of it's the material. I'm making 4 screwless vice clamps. More or less like these; http://littlemachineshop.com/Projects/Drawings/ScrewlessViseClamps.pdf I bought 4 pieces of 1018 cold rolled steel 1.25" square x 2.0" long (...

I think I may have made a mistake.

Thanks guys, Brian, Understood. When lathing out of balance have it jacked up off of the casters. Makes sense especially for really out of balance stuff. Paulsv, I thought about a maple laminated top similar to this...

I think I may have made a mistake.

Well I got the roll around cabinet built, drawers made and installed and mounted the mill and lathe on the top that I talked about in my intro. http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/index.php?topic=12291.0 Anyway after reading about John, BogStandard's, lathe rebuild on the madmodder site...

    Howdy

grumble...grumble...wet cold weather...grumble...grumble...wet cold weather... Still supposed to be in the 40's this weekend and I don't like painting unless the temps above 50, so I've decided to head over to Fine lumber in Austin, pick up some baltic birch and make the drawer boxes. Not the...

Hi Shred, Sounds good but I'm not finding a lot of info on Austin Metal Working Etc group. Must be my Google/Yahoo -fu isn't working. Got a linky? Thanks!

    MB building Upshur Farm Engines.

Wow!! Very impressive… and a little intimidating. I'm following along and understand most of it (I think). It'll probably be quite awhile before I attempt something on this level. But this has already answered some questions about securing work that were rattling around in my noggin over the...
