    Over packaging

I do recall seeing an article about a company that developed a carboard packaging system. It scanned the items on a conveyor belt (or whatever) & as they arrived at the packaging point it had a correctly sized cardboard box manufactured, in a few seconds, to suit that item. The idea to make a...

Total new-comer to CAD. Which programme to choose.

Thanks for the tip. They did not tell me it included the support fee. I assume that Alibra is what you use. Did you find that you needed support in the early stages that you could not get off the internet?

Total new-comer to CAD. Which programme to choose.

Thanks for the reply. I have looked at some tutorials & I reckon i could work with that. I have not tried the 30 day free trial yet as I do not want it over Xmas as there will be 2 weeks where I will not get much time to use it. So I will take that up in january & then have a detailed experiment...

Total new-comer to CAD. Which programme to choose.

I do not post here very often so may be well off track with what I want I started out with Autocad version 3 . A green screen & watering eyes. I eventually progressed but found that Autosketch version 6 did all I needed. I had a joinery shop & a building business. I needed to do drawings for...

    Wrong way fly cutter

Hi. I am interested in this comment about "angle of the fly". I assume you mean that the cutter ( piece of tool steel) is more at right angles to the axis than might be expected ( whatever one might expect of course!!) So 2 questions:- How does that make it easier to make on a small milling...

    Wrong way fly cutter

If you saw the engine in my boat you would think that some idiot solved that problem because he designed it so you could not get to it to get it apart in the first place 🙄

    Wrong way fly cutter

Futaba 2 stick model transmitters for flight have 4 modes, not 2, so can be easily set up for left handed persons. We have a couple in our club I believe Simrad & all the other mainstream makes have the same function. So your son clearly does not trust you with his decent models😁

Ban on small engines in California

I have not read the entire thread - I have a life to live:cool: but would comment With the development of such good electric motors, the loss of liquid fuelled models should not be so detrimental to our hobby. I was at the field yesterday when a member turned up, plugged in his battery & was...

What to charge to thread a rod

Getting back to the OP's question have a look at the material $1 per thread for an easy one $1.25 for hard metal or long thread Price per end does not sound so much money & you are not in it for serious bucks anyway You have not quoted any hourly rate so they cannot hold you to one in the future

Newby wanting to build an engine.

Why not a PYRTE traction engine as a starter. The full instructions cost me about £ 22 from memory, but can now be obtained as a book in kindle for considerably less. Build time is supposed to be about 140 hours & there is an owners forum with a lot of decent pictures. All from bar stock...

My Drill Chuck Keeps Falling Off

I had a 5/8 inch drill chuck that kept falling off, so I used a centre punch to put about a dozen indents into the taper. I then hammered the chuck on tight. It was on a Sealey pillar drill that i retained after I sold my joinery business 20 years ago. I have had it about 40 years. It has not...

Model Traction Engine for a Novice!

I know that you have decided on a steam engine, but if you have a lake nearby have you thought of a steam boat. You could chuff it round a lake & your son would have far more fun watching it go. A myfordboy steam engine will get a bit boring once built & a simple steam engine in a simple hull...

My Drill Chuck Keeps Falling Off

    Parting tool chatter

I have just been through this thread & cannot see anyone mentioning making 2 cuts. I have had a very elasticated Warco 240 MV from new. (My Drummond M seemed more rigid.) One can watch the cutter dipping visually millimetres, not thous. I cannot run a low revs because the variable speed motor...
