So its been awhile but I have not given up. I am in the process of buying my own machine tools as I don't have access during the summer.
I just machined the pistons for the engine on my new Taig lathe.
I am hoping to order a cnc taig mill in the next week or two.
I also bored out the...
Well I am working on an Elmers #9 but while I am waiting on my mill to get here I decided to build an engine based on the first type of steam engine.
I got the Idea from the book
Making Simple Model Steam Engines by Stan Bray
I am not using the same dimensions and I have changed things up...
Today I cut the flywheel and the two crankshafts. Not sure how I am going to press the pins into the crank. right now I think I am going to drill the hole on the bridgeport and try to hold the pin in the chuck and use the machine as a press... might try throwing the pins in the freezer to...
Good news... I got the counter shaft pulley apart.
Bad news. The bearings are shot and need to be replaced

You can get a DIY version of the commercial printers for around $500-1500 they work pretty well. The detail and tolerances isn't as good and you cant have big overhangs...

thats pretty much how it came out... it took a bit of effort but once I got the shaft to start moving it came out easy... yea not looking forward to putting it back in...
The front bearing is stuck on the shaft still is it a press fit or should it come off easily? I am thinking of replacing...
I got the shaft out it required a bit of persuasion. The bearings look okay but I think I might replace them anyways if they are relitively inexpensive.
