Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

Hi Brian, If one cylinder is firing the the cams for the other cylinder should be exactly 180 degrees opposite in the direction of rotation check this out and you should have compression and a beautiful running engine to be proud of.John

    Odds & Ends engine

Most likely the spring setting on your governor is too light meaning the engine speed is too slow for the larger choke diameter. Air speed through the venturi Is too slow to drag in fuel. Tension up the governor weights so the engine runs a little faster and see what happens. I made one more...

Shop built sparkplugs for model engines

I use wiper sniper coils not car coils as they will cause flash over and you need extra long insulators which to me are out of proportion in the models we make. The insulator ceramic tubes i use are approximately 1 inch in length. If the plug oils up or fuel floods is easy to clean. I have one...

    Cylinder misalignment question

Why not set up the crankcase and re-machine the cylinder mounting face square and the piston looks to have sufficient metal in the crown to reduce same by a similar amount. John

    Flathead hit and miss engine???

Brian have you thought of a smaller fan on the crankshaft and ducting the air flow to the cylinder and head for cooling. John

    Flathead hit and miss engine???

Using the ignition works fine but wastes fuel as the miss cycle is still drawing in fuel whereas the exhaust valve being held open does not waste an induction cycle . A small point but never the less the ignition cycle still uses the miss cycle to govern speed. An interesting project though...

    Deep Drilling In aluminum block

One of the things missed in the quotes is the drill sharpness! If the two cutting lands are not of equal length or identical angle then the drill bit will not drill an on size or straight hole, always slightly oversize, unless it is only taking a final cut after a slightly undersize drill is...

Time for a new Horizontal Hit and Miss engine

Hi Brian I would have tried heavier weights on the governor which would cause them to activate at a lower speed. Worth a try before a re design. Drill a hole in them and fill with lead John

Hi Brian, don;t know if you have seen this video but "Blondi Hacks" makes it relative easy. We can't let the fairer sex better us but she is very good and has many sites. John.
