What WW2 hardware would you save?

A Vickers machine gun and the ability (meaning a change in the English gun laws) to shoot it. But one of these is fun too:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46-RYbMg6mU

Baby lathes, any experience with them?

I still have a Unimat 4 which I bought about eight years ago. It is not the original Austrian (I believe?) model but it has served me very well and I learned a lot using it. I also made some useful stuff. Although I have a larger lathe now, the Unimat gets plenty of use on the reloading bench.

    Brian's Beam

Sadly no progress with 'Spirit of Brian' with the shooting season, and time of my favorite pastime fast approaching I have more important bits to make (sorry Brian). Base pins urgently needed for my Ruger Old Army as one broke at the end of last year. The factory one is at the rear in this...

    Brian's Beam

I managed a few hours today between nursing She Who Must Be Obeyed and domestics. I couldn't polish out all the marks I had made during my fumblings so I tried some 'engine turning'. I have loved the look of this effect since I saw, as a kid, Jimmie Stewart in 'Spirit of St. Louis' . I used a...

    Brian's Beam

Domestic duties put aside for a while I managed a couple of hours today. I Brian's notes on the drawings he recommends using brass bushes so I made some. I don't have any Loctite but I do have loads of grub screws which I used to hold the bushes. I shall buy some shorter (those are 10mm) ones...

    Chinese New Year

Thanks for the heads up, I had forgotten, despite being in the 'FEZ; that's Royal Navy speak for Far Eastern Station, when at this time of year everything stops except the bars and houses of ill repute - so I'm told;)

    Brian's Beam

It has been a long break, we are back home but 'domestics' have kept me out of the fettling shed. On the engine front I have only gathered some gear, bits of brass etc. to make some of the smaller parts, and some proper engineer's marking blue. Having made a scriber with my Unimat some time ago...

    Great service

I ordered a bottle of marking fluid from these guys:- http://www.waltersandwalters.co.uk/ at 2100 yesterday. At 1130 this morning the postman knocked on my door and handed me the bottle. Now I can mark out like a proper engimeer! I just had to tell someone 👏👏👏😄

    Flywheels

I am grateful for your replies and for the links. I am new at this game, so making one was another challenge and learning process for me. I milled the one I made from a bit of square steel I bought in a job lot of off-cuts. It was fun, difficult (no CNC - so patting head and rubbing beer belly...

    Flywheels

At the risk of being shot down, who is this bloke, coming on here telling us what we already know.:hDe: I was reading Ghosty's thread and thought about my own search for a flywheel, I ended up making one (nvg) from plate steel. Anyway:- http://www.martinmodel.com/MMPflywheelslist.html...

    Brian's Beam

Greetings Brian. A friend of mine, it was watching him re-barrel my rifle gave me the start, he is a proper engineer, said that your drawings are very comprehensive. I said, if that means that they are understandable by a silly old &@&£) like me..... So, thank you again Brian, I hope I can do...

    Brian's Beam

She Who Must Be Obeyed was out all day today; so I spent the whole day in the Fettling Shed. The Flywheel is very rough and I wish I had done better. I shall get some more steel and do another I think. The Column I had to make in two pieces due to lack of space, tools and above all - the...
