    That or the head needed more work the the other guy thought it was worth & junked it with plans to get back to the rest or find another head?     Remember, that thing is hollow, most of it not over 3/4" thick, it probably won't weigh a ton in it's current state. And cast iron cuts like butter with almost anything, sawzall, plasma, cutting torch, even a good circular saw with a ferrous blade (not the abrasive kind) will chew through it...

    vacuum for use on a lathe

    I bought a thing off Amazon called a Dust Deputy DIY, it fits on a 5 gallon bucket & catches the heavy stuff before it gets to the vacuum cleaner, works great, catches almost everything.
