    Turning a hardened shaft

Yeah, I get the feeling the machine will yell at me if it can't take it. I'll do a test cut when I get back to my shop, and I'll report back with the results. Thanks for the advice you guys. It's invaluable.

    Turning a hardened shaft

I've got a pretty tight 10" Atlas. It does seem to be more rigid that some of the SB lathes I've used. The shaft is RC 60, but I think only case hardened.

    Turning a hardened shaft

Well, I do have plenty of excess shaft, and inserts are cheap, so I guess that's a good idea. I'll throw science at it and see what happens.

    Turning a hardened shaft

Hi all, I'm making an arbor that needs to run in some needle bearings, and has a profile turned on one end. I have some hardened shaft of the proper size, and was wondering if there's any reason I couldn't cut it in my lathe with carbide tooling. Will I break something horribly? I've cut a...

    Power Wheels Cars

And a quick update. Here's the video from the Chicago race. http://vimeo.com/47237915 We took 2nd place in the road race, won the moxie for the weekend, and ended up in 5th place overall for the series. I'm pretty stoked, and now that it's over, I can start working on the car for the October...

    Power Wheels Cars

Awesome. I've always thought that those people were a little nuts. Then I started this. Most of the teams that race are from hackerspaces (communal workshops). After I joined my local hackerspace (Pumping Station: One in Chicago) I just joined because it looked like fun. And because the...

    Power Wheels Cars

Hi all, I've been gone a while, but I've been busy. I'm involved in the power racing series (PPPRS). We take kid-sized ride-on toys, re-build them, and race them (the goal being to have a good time more than win). It's been an excellent test of my fabricating skills, and now that the season...

    buying dro direct from supplier

I've not heard of them before, but the price certainly looks good! I would be interested as well in finding out if they're valid DROs.

Electronic Dividing Head using the Arduino

Looks great! When do we get to see it working?

    High Speed Video

Hi all, When I got my camera, one of the things I liked about it was that it can shoot video at up to 1000 frames/sec. So of course, I film a lot in slow-motion. Today I was boring out some bearing mounts on my mill, and thought it would be fun to film it, so here it is...

    Stepper Expert Needed

You have mid-size steppers and no use for them? Sounds like someone needs a CNC project...

    A Jan Ridders Duo

Looking good from here. Although brass may be pretty, you can use whatever you have in the right size for the flywheel.

Electronic Dividing Head using the Arduino

Glad to hear everything is working now. I can't wait to see this working!

Electronic Dividing Head using the Arduino

I'm assuming the delay is in milliseconds? Things to check: Are the leads wired correctly? Is the separate motor voltage connected to the driver, and does it share a common ground with the controller? What is the current pot set at? Upload the code, maybe it's something subtle there.
