If we can post a turning job that's to big for my lathe

Get your spare while you can; :) Same seller, must have a cast iron foundry. Pretty good price on the engine kit. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254779723821?hash=item3b520e102d:g:bYQAAOSw~kFfsA1w

    The X axis.

I really like your limit switch design. I have this problem with my Align power feed, I don't damage anything, but it rolls the microswitch box over when I manually crank. I understand you keeping this simple. I'm surprised that you don't feel cogging of the stepper motor when manually cranking...

    The X axis.

I've looked into doing this as well. I could not find a stepper motor that had enough torque to drive the feed screw without a reduction gear box. I do think, a separate encoder is needed in the event of a lost step or two. I see the advantage of using the Arduino so electronic limit end stops...

    Precision Gauge Blocks

+8/-4 microinch max for grade 3, less then 1 inch. At least what I found. Seems the set I have, I've seen numbers that range +/-30 microinch on the calibration sheet included, so this must be an economy set of blocks.

    Lathe slide wobble

syrtismajor Why do you believe this is a compound slide issue? Just what material are you cutting? Using what speeds and feeds? Your description about .25mm of gap between the slide surfaces, did you actually measure this? Are you sure it's not the whole lathe going into harmonic oscillations...

    Precision Gauge Blocks

The problem I've encountered with feeler gauges, they are punched from sheet stock, and typically have a raised edge. They work OK for setting engine tappets, as the central part away from the edge is used. I have old used feeler gauges as well, that were used back in the day, and are all...

Download a free program, HandBrake, I use this to compress large mp4 videos to 2-8MB size depending on the compression.

    Precision Gauge Blocks

Brian, I purchase my new set off eBay about 6 years ago. I use them with sine bars and my sine plate. On my lathe I have a sine bar I made a quick bracket to clamp to the side of the compound for precision setting of the angle. You can get an 81 piece set, new for $92USD off eBay. They are grade...

    Toolpost Grinders

I have been using my toolpost grinder the past two months. One project was repairing the lathes spindle adapter, that converts the spindle hole to a Morse Taper socket, for center work. It was made wrong and never fit from day one. It's hardened, and that's where grinding comes in. The other...

    Round Ram Bridgeport

I hope that kit comes with the mounting plates or bars that mount to the machine, and then the scales to those. The ToAuto didn't even come with installation instructions. So I have to make all those parts. I know what has to be done, but the other three I've installed had all the required...

    Round Ram Bridgeport

I'll start install tomorrow. But I got 2, 12inch scales. My mill and two lathes have a DRO, currently. I assume install is the same. I should have gotten magnetic scales, for the grinding dust, but they wanted much more for them, and we shall see if this is a problem.

    Round Ram Bridgeport

I'm with you Richard, but not everyone knows how to do electrical installation. The worst thing I see, is the county (building department, and issuer of the permit) typically in my experience has inspectors that are jerks with homeowners doing any construction work. I think because they have to...

    Round Ram Bridgeport

If the electrical task was not connected to a major addition and putting a 2nd floor on the existing home, I would never have gotten a permit. That said, I did attend a trade school for 2 years for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology. That was back in 1974, when refrigeration...

    Round Ram Bridgeport

I had gotten beaten up by the local inspector here 5 years ago, it was on the main meter panel, which I replaced with a new one that had 4 circuit breaker slots for feeding power to different subpanels. I had fed wire back into the house's original service through a conduit fitting out the...

    Round Ram Bridgeport

You have to make sure when you start the return process to click on the hidden "not as described" or wrong item sent. It's hidden as it's not an option on the screen, as there is a 'more' button or some other pull down click needed to see these other options. But doing this, the seller has to...
