    Transparent tank

For what it's worth, glass watch-glasses are made in 1mm size-increments, are quite accurately round and are petrol-resistant. (A 28mm one fitted my fuel-tank quite nicely, and got some puzzled looks from the shopkeeper where I bought it.) Geoff.

    Lathe Copier Attachment

About thirty years ago I had an hydraulic copier on a very modest 6-inch (12" swing) lathe. It replaced the topslide and carried its own toolpost. The large-end of the stepped hydraulic piston supplied a high-force pushing the tool towards the work, and a lower force pushing "out" to retract...

Mini Lathe Issues and Concept Execution

Whilst agreeing with the other folks about learning to use the tools you have, I was once faced with machining a screw of 100mm pitch on a 4" bar by 1-metre long. It was easy enough to set the leadscrew-gearing but .... With a spindle-speed of say 50rpm, the saddle would be moved at 50x100...

20 lb Thurst Pulse Jet Engines.

Reminds me of one of Cyril Fletcher's Odd Odes, to the Jet Plane: "I travel quickly, wouldn't you, With fire and brimstone up your flue" Geoff

Can you ask them to open another branch - about 150 miles East of Bangkok, please? Geoff, Thailand

    different power feed

You're asking the wrong questions! Stop banging your head on the bench and THINK. As Norman points out, running an electric motor at faster than gas-turbine speeds and wanting your slower-than-a-snail output is not the most sensible way to go about this small problem. Use a small synchronous...

This morning - view from the shop

Somewhat reminds me of the first time my sister and I met our cousins, back in 1950 and just outside London. It was wintertime and the girls, from Venezuela, had never seen snow, so they stripped naked and just rolled around in the snow in our garden. Geoff, Thailand, where Cold is considered...

A vertical single 4-stroke IC engine

    Confused at Stuart Pricing

To put those prices into perspective, way back in about 1970 my wife bought me a 10V castings set. It cost 30 pounds, about the same as one-months wages at that time. And now, the price is less than my weekly pension, which makes them effectively one-quarter of the price that they were...

    PTFE instead of Brass?

Wood! Dirt cheap, holds oil, hard-wearing. Many North Sea fishing-boats used lignum vitae for rudder-post bearings, with the rudder-post clad in stainless-steel. We used to "spray" the stainless powder within a flame (can't remember the details) onto the mild-steel shaft then grind it to size...

Online shops- Where to buy materials.

Do ANY of you blokes actually read: he has stated quite clearly "I live in Croatia". A quick Google for Croatia, USA comes up with only travel sites, so I suppose you haven't yet copied Croatia as a town-name. Rant over Geoff, Thailand

    People that build from blueprints?

Many years ago, at college, a chum who was brilliant at maths, just could not visualise objects from drawings. Enter Plasticene! I used to model the various items in different colours of Plasticene so Ray could "see" the 3D. In return he helped me enormously with my maths. Geoff Thailand

    ubiquitous 101 piece drill sets

The killer is International Postage! Especially from major, well-known countries like USA and UK. I recently bought a couple of items, value 26 quid, from the UK: postage was 15 quid. More recently searching e-Bay for a battery for my cordless drill: item price 39$US, postage 89$. Plus...
