Would like to purchase a set of drawings for subject engine. I have a set of casting but missing most all of the drawings. I believe H Clarkson & Son 53/57 Layerthorpe York England hold the copyright. Any help would be appreciated. The engine scale is 1” = 1’
a set of casting are available but no drawings for the Mery explosion engine. Cant pull the trigger with out knowing if drawings are available. Hopefully some one may have an answer for me.
I hope so..
Q Has anyone tried to use a flapper disk abrasive pad on their vertical mill? The base of the engine I’m building was originally Blanchard ground which looked ok. After months of building on top I’ve managed to upset it’s original surface finish. My engine build is about finished and I need to...
Bought an old antique popcorn engine the other day. The engine is missing the govener, piston and some fasteners. This engine still has the original Crome finish, loose red paint on the flywheel, years of dirt and grime.
I plan on making all missing parts to the original design and have this...
McMaster Carr had the size I was looking for. Too easy I must say. I searched by OD and there it was. Ordered and was delivered the next day.
I appreciate everyone support.
I can certainly mess with the o ring groove width and depth. The piston and its fit with the cylinder is not going to change.
If this engine had a cast iron bore and cylinder I would be making split cast iron rings. The materials are cast brass and bearing bronze. Using O rings as a piston ring...
Ok. Im going tool up to grip the Oring on its sites and using the tool post grinder I try machining the Ring OD.
Waiting for rings to be shipped. once I have the o ring in hand I’ll make an arbor to fit with one Fixed and one movable side wall to clamp the ring.
With out going through a lengthy discussion as to why I have this question here is my question
For model steam engine piston ring my best plan is to turn down a standard 2” OD ring to a size of 1.946” dia.
Has anyone done this before? Should I freeze the o ring first on a mandrel. Turn with a...
I found a consistent simple way to break the piston ring. I held the piston ring in my mill vise. With a 1/2” dia pin or anything stiff in the collet I side load the piston ring until it snapped. Lots of control, easy to do, broke clean every time. I made extra rings thinking I was doing...
