    Fuel for Model Engines

Methanol, which is often labeled paint thinners in AUS, and Castrol M, which is a mixing caster base oil. 5:1 mix. Used it for years in RC glow plug engines. now days I use a commercial synthetic mixing oil.

    Larrys PM Research #4

Nice work on the repair Larry. I have done both concealed pin, and roll pin (for future maintenance ), repairs many times. As I said, I don't always trust my "press fits". The progress is looking great. Neil

    Larrys PM Research #4

That's what I'd do, in fact I probably would have done that before testing with the lathe. But that's just because I don't trust MY press fits either. Cheers Neil.

    Trevithick's Dredger boiler

No problems Irek, we are all here to help. I hadn't noticed Tony's post until after I offered my own advice. After refreshing my memory by reading the next forum subject, I realised it was just what you needed. Great job on the engine too, it looks good. Cheers Neil

    Trevithick's Dredger boiler

It might be worth your time to read the previous thread on the small gas burner. It may answer all your problems. Tony has done all the work for you. Cheers Neil

    Trevithick's Dredger boiler

Alternatively you may get better results from a torch type flame, directed into the combustion tube. Cheers Neil

    Trevithick's Dredger boiler

Well the way I look at the problem is that you need to correct the mixture imbalance to get flame ! Either more air or less fuel will solve the issue. As you have explained, you only got a small amount of flame from your burner once positioned inside the combustion chamber. That means not enough...

    Trevithick's Dredger boiler

Sounds like a basic air / fuel mix problem to me. You may need to fan force air into the chamber to get it to temp, then maybe it might " self draw" it's own air. Cheers Neil

Interesting build so far Stan, would love to see how you worked through the solution. What is MEM, and where do I find these posts ? Cheers Neil

    Distal height gauge

Well I've done a fair bit of woodwork in my time but never needed a digital height guage ? Seems to me that it would be a good cheap addition to the metal work side of the shop though.

    Henrob torch

I have just acquired one of these torch kits but haven't used it yet cos the hose threads are smaller than my hoses. :( Has anyone tried the acetylene/air attachment for it ? I was wondering if it would be any good for silver brazing copper boilers, or would I be better off using a welding...

    Brian builds Atkinson Engine

:). I remember that feeling Brian. My dad used to get a laugh out of getting me to Un-suspectingly hold the screwdriver that he had placed into the spark plug lead, while he pulled the cord on the mower, to see if the coil was working.:o Cheers, Neil
