    Bore stroke ratio

I had looked at a few plans before designing my own open crank hit and miss engine and the average seemed to be a stroke of 1.6 times the bore. if you go longer than that the con rod can foul on the bore at half stroke. some early long stoke engines look like adapted steam engines and have a...

    Hold a gear for cutting?

A small amount of error really shows on a gear with small teeth. everything has some degree of error so it is best to eliminate any unnecessary source. your collet block has the potential for error mounting in the chuck, the collet to the holder, the collet to the arbour and the holder itself...

    Making a model Cannon

I am going to cast a cannon in the next couple of days, I have drawn up a pattern and printed it on a 3d printer, given it a couple of coats of spray putty and a gloss top coat. the picture shows a gap between the two halves but it does go together properly. I will cast it in the same material...

    flywheel stl files

I am assuming that it is aluminium bronze, it comes from wear plates on a caterpillar grader. It machines OK providing you cut with a sharp tool, it casts well with no porosity and it looks good. Best of all it is free.

    flywheel stl files

3d printers are great for making patterns but files seem to be hard to find, so I thought that I should share mine. The smaller flywheel is from the 140 mm pattern scaled to 0.65 in the slicer program. The larger one is a 90 mm pattern at full scale, the blue patterns are lumps to provide hot...

    Carburetor question

Thanks, I have used the fellows design a few times and they work well. I tried the rupnow britnell one once when was a real beginner and made such a mess of it that i gave up, I should try again now that i have more chance of success. As for your problem, it should work with a bit of tuning, I...

    Carburetor question

What design is the carburetor?. 5/32 or 4mm should work on an engine that size but there are many factors that can affect it. enlarging the bore will reduce the effectiveness of the venturi by slowing the speed of the air passing it so the mixture screw will have to be turned out a bit or the...

    Let's talk cutter grinders

I bought the dekel clone to sharpen end mills and it will do that, the best use i have found is finishing off valves. I think that we all know someone who can sharpen things and some who can't, there is an art to using most machines. I have a Drill Doctor machine for sharpening drill bits and it...

    Let's talk cutter grinders

I have an ER11 collet holder with a straight 16mm shank. it is handy for holding small stuff in the lathe 3 jaw chuck and i also use it in the dekel clone. i have collets up to 10 mm for the ER11 and 10 up in ER32. the ER11 can also go in the ER32 square and hex blocks. cheap ebay from china...
