Adding poured lead to aluminum flywheel - have you done it?

The late Bogstandard made a few flywheels from aluminum with lead, steel, or brass inserts in the rim. I'm not sure if he poured led or hammered it in. He used locktite on the steel and brass round stock.

Where to source plans for a QCTP

Look at this one. http://www.homemetalshopclub.org/projects/toolpost/toolpost.html I made one years ago for my 7x14. Still have it. The cylinder post I made from steel, the blocks for tools I made from aluminum. EDIT: This style, called a Norman style, was often mentioned by Mert Baker in his...

Can I build an Elderberry Launch Engine with just a lathe?

Can you clarify the design and function of the rotary valve? In the plan it looks like its 2 groves milled 180 deg. apart, and parallel to the diameter.

Very nice, good runner. Where did you get the info to make the pattern? Did you buy plans or from a book?

    Sudden Problems With my Printer

I use 'Aqua-Net' hair spray. Start with a clean, properly leveled bed with glass plate on it. Spray a light coat of the hairspray on the glass. Use as is until prints don't stick again, a surprisingly large number of prints. Then wash the glass in warm water with dish soap, re-install glass...

    Youngster's simple electric motor

I built a functioning motor a while ago from a coil of wire, a couple of paperclips, and magnets, as seen in an online Science Class or maybe a youtube video.. I just finished another from a coil of wire, screws in a wood block, washers, and magnets. I don't have batteries on hand to test this...

    Youngster's simple electric motor

When I was a young man (I'm now 71), my Dad, an electrician, built me a simple dc electric motor. It had sheet metal stator cores shaped like inverted #5's, a commutator and brushes, both made of copper wire, and hand wound stator and commutator windings. It was mounted on a piece of pine board...

    Drill America end mills

While searching for a source for a 7/16" or 12 mm end mill, I found that Home Depot advertises the brand Drill America for online order and home or store delivery. Anyone have experience with these? Opinions? Immediate need is for use on mild steel bar from Tractor Supply... I'm making a...

    Hardware store steam engine

I'm compiling your pictures and instructions to study. My major problem will be to find a real hardware store still in business... There is currently only one that I know of in a 50 mile radius! The big box stores are such a pain to find anything.

    Hardware store steam engine

I thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make this list and the explanation of the build. I will study it and assemble the parts to hopefully build a working engine with my Grandson. I have asked if he was interested, but have not had a reply yet. You are an inspiration to all Grandpas.

    Hardware store steam engine

That would be so cool to make with my Grandson! Could you possibly put together a parts list and a build log? I'm not that creative...
