    Scrap Yard Shocker!!

Definitely happy I stocked up, back when brass and bronze was still under $2.00 per pound. I've still have some of the larger diameters that I purchased at $.80 per pound. I stopped buyinging when it crossed $2.50 per.

    Is It Hot There?

Two days of 107° with index temps of 115°, this week. Was a balmy 100/ 105° today. A wee bit miserable with the high humidity levels. I'm looking forward to the high 80's or low 90's predicted next week. Steve

    Awkward Evening

Thanks for the feedback, guys. It pretty much follows what I've been nudging around in my mind. When I posted, I was still freshly annoyed with him for pushing me when I had already chosen to recuse myself from making any comment at all. I'm smart enough to know she's only parroting what he's...

    Awkward Evening

I know its been a while since I've posted but this group is probably the most level headed bunch I know. I hope you won't mind my venting a bit and asking for some advice. I've known this particular couple for nearly 20 years and always considered them to be close friends. Recently, he...

Dream... I'm not making the call, just watching the flow. I'm smart enough to know I'm not always right...(grin) Steve

Dear God... let me learn just half what he's forgotten

Swede... No argument here. Repetitive parts get progressively easier, but designing those engine on paper is a whole different kettle of fish. Hand grinding the cams is just insanity at its best....LOL Steve

    Dreamcutter

Dreamcutter.... Looks an awful lot like the one I built for less than $25.00. I'm not quite ready to call this thread commercial spam, but it sure is getting bloody close. Steve

A step back into the 1930's

As some of you are aware, I work for/consult/sales manage the Jensen Steam Engine Company. It's a tiny company which was founded in 1932 and still supplies the whole world with the best available quality toy steam engines money can buy. No brag.... just the fact....(grin). It's been a labor of...

Good plans for a "modern" single cylinder?

Nothing said so far changed any of my perceptions of the situation. My comments are the same as I'd give to my own kid or grandkids. Sorry if they caused you discomfort.... it's one of those grandfather things. Steve

Good plans for a "modern" single cylinder?

Apulin Good luck with the student project, but you've obviously misread the nature of the local community. You've asked for proprietary drawings to be copied and that is a huge taboo here. As I recall, at least back in the bronze age of my own ancient educational experiences, a student was...

    100 watt bulbs banned

Just read about the "next generation" energy saving lighting for consumers. LED lighting is apparently the goal but at a suggested retail price of $45.00- $49.00 each. Unfortunately, the LED lights are directional and cast very little ambient light. I just ran a fast calculation on outfitting my...
