Lee's purchase of teh 3" Foden fell through so he's not gone any further with the project.

For the smaller sizes you could just buy stock gears from the likes of HPC and machine them to suit, I did that with several on my 2" Fowler.

Hi Lee I am like yourself and I am building a 3" Foden Wagon,I have the Chassis ,Wheels ,Brakes and steering complete,I am busy with the horplates, and shall start the crankshaft shortly,at this stage I dont know of anyone having a set of gears available I do know of several Firms who will cut gears for you if you turn up the blanks,Beware gearcutting is Expensive although if you get several sets done together then the cost does drop, however I do not know where you live I live NE of UK!perhaps you can enlighten me of any that are ready made which might be cheaper?.As you know this design was by T Morriss later taken over by Reeves 2000 there info says information on this model was serialised in The Model Engineer VOL139 & 140, I have bought both but find that only up to Part 12 is in these ,Do you know why the series was never completed ? or do you know of another source of info on building this model if so I would like to hear from you .superlionb10

Hi superlion l have been building the Clayton undertype for the last 3 years but have now decided to start building the 3 inch Foden but the plans l have purchased from Reeves are not easy to read also there is a book which details the building of the model by A E T Morris but try as l might l cannot obtain a copy anywhere it was in the shape of a cd , but as l say it is rarer than rocking horse droppings , did you manage to get any info on the build before you started ? MJ Engineering advertise gears for the 3inch Foden l have requested prices , but am still waiting for their reply , are you still looking for a set if so l will let you know when l get a reply , anyway any info you can give me would be much appreciated, cheers , Steve

I'm not sure what gears if any MJ are able to cut now, Malcom Frost the M in the original name used to do them but has totally retired now, Alan the current owner bought some of his machines but not sure what he is able to do at the moment.

As for MJ Eng, you'd be dealing with Alan Barsby who in my experience, is a total waste of air. I celebrated the first birthday of my order for gears after a number of phone calls and emails had failed to move him. I then went to England to confront him at the GDSF where he promised to supply them within three weeks. Of course they never showed. The upside is I made them myself including the internal splines. Took awhile but I learned a lot and now have the tooling to make more.
Live and learn.

thanks for that wont bother to chase him then , looks like l will have to go the same route as you and grow a pair so l can make them myself , not looking forward to it , especially as the plans l have are not the best when it comes to legibility, don’t suppose you have any building instructions lying around , l have been trying to source a book which go with the plans by A E T Morris with absolutely no results apart from computer says no and l have read that the build series in MEW didn’t get finished , so am between a rock n a hard place so to speak , thanks for the info on MJ engineering. 👍

Well, It might appear that I was jumping on the band wagon that's not my style. I'll help anyone to the best of my ability. I probably know exactly where to find the info the OP was looking for, But ask and I'll give. Demand as that's how I took the posting? Sorry but yer outta luck. YMMV.

Pete
You guys are fuddy duddies, I disagree with you about his bad manners. I see nothing wrong at all with what he was asking. He's been here since 2009 which is a lot longer than I have been. Probably just reads the threads and now needs some help. I don't thimk he was "demanding" anything. He was asking, also, he "bowed" to all you wonderful youngsters.
