Hi guys,
That seal is my engine and i can give some information.
It is an graupner speed400 rated at 6v running on 12 v. With 6v it doesnt start the the engine.
But maybee this belongs to some compression, leakage, ignition issiues.
The starter is wired over a switch to an 12v lead battery. The setup also uses a one way bearing, so the starter stay still when not energized.

Michael, I have finished my Seal and want to fit an electric starter also, can you please give me some more details like gearing ratios etc, any close up pictures of your set up?
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
as shown before the Motor is an Graupner Speed400 6v device powered with 12 v.
The smal gear has 12 teeth the big one has 56 teeth.
The big gear is fittetd with an free running sleeve driving an intermediat shaft.
This shaft has an v-belt pulley that is driving the flywheel.
The intermediat shaft also drives the waterpump.

sorry forgot that . yes the Ration is 0.5 so the Pulley on the fly has 40mm dia and the pulley on the shaft 20mm.

Have you posted pics of your build? did it alreay run?

Thanks again! Yes it has been running , it runs and starts very nicely . It is built to the plans from Hemingway castings, with horizontal distributor and carb as in the plans. Its going into a scale model boat runabout of 970 mm long. I haven't posted any pictures yet as I want to finish the boat and show it all together

So you have a reduction ratio of approximately 10:1 ? Is that correct

Mark

The basic engine is finished, but I want to make a proper fuel tank and cooling system before I try to start it.
You would have to be 1 in a million.
Most cannot wait to hear that first sign of life with jury rigged pieces all over covering ignition, cooling (whaasat?? :):)) and fuel supply.
With the starters I would imagine a much higher reduction ratio.
This will be obvious if one has to apply more voltage.
Currently have an experimental setup using brushless which we will supply info on when complete.

It seems my web hosting service is having trouble at the moment. This is unusual. I have seen my pages down for short periods a couple of times now. When it is down, Firefox is asking what to do with a zero length page, and Safari confusingly asks if you want to download the page.

Hello, with my first engine I used a drill motor to turn a crank gear to turn the cam gear to turn the crank gear. hope this helps.

Some of the guys at my model RC flying field have ready made starters built into their aeroplanes. Engines 75-100cc. Do not need many revs to start, basically equivalent to flicking the prop. Powered off a 4 cell lypo battery & switched by a purpose made circuit that comes with the starter plugged into the receiver & instructions from the transmitter, or separate switch on the side of the plane
