Finally got a start recently on my next project, Kozo's New Shay locomotive, and am trouble finding a source for 3-48 thread machine screws with hex head in steel, only found them so far in brass. Found plenty of 2-56 and 4-40, but they all seem to skip 3-48 in hex head, only see them in socket head or screw head. Odd! They must not sell many in that size (other than the fact they DONT sell them...!)

Anyone know of a source for them in steel?

Thanks!

(oh and build thread for the loco will start soon, so far working on the main frame, which is just boring rectangles so far!)

For what ever reason #3 And # 5 fasteners are hard to find . mostly used by model makers and gun smiths.
I think it comes down to most cases that need a #3 a #2 or #4 can be used.
some where around here IIRC I have a container of # 7 wood screws.

the odd sizes are all but abandoned and # 12 is about obsolete as well as it is close to 1/4"

Niether McMasterCarr nor Micro Fastener have that size in steel hex head - have gotten lots of other stuff from both of them in the past, great sources.
I will get an order in to the americanmodeleng guys when they are back from vacation - thanks to all for the suggestions on sources! Thm:

Sorry, I misread your initial post. I thought you were looking for 3-48 hex nuts, not screws.
