3" Foden Steam Wagon

Hi all,
is there anyone building a 3" Foden 6 Ton C type steam wagon
or has anyone got a set of gears for one that maybe sat under the bench .any good site about the 3" steam wagon

Most of the moderators here seem to stay on top of the goings-on during their respective waking hours (remember, we're literally spread across the globe). OTOH, we're human; have families; illnesses; annoyances; business concerns; investments to manage; etcanm. (Ok, tell me, did I punctuate that correctly?). We also, at least in the case of this one, have a typical short-temper when newcomers treat the forum as their personal, solve-my-problem-for-me sandbox.

Bad manners are bad manners. We'll never escape the ug ill-mannered side of human nature.

When my wife and I have to correct the behavior of our great granddaughter, we try not to gang up. Its not necessary. One of us handles it but only one. Lets try not to display the bad manners that have caused some forums to decay into small exclusive clubs. No flame, no ridicule.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone. I seldom, if ever, comment on these things.

Lee is a good guy. Like me he's possibly not the most articulate but he did have the courtasy to say "thanks in advance" thats hardly a Demand for info.

He had problems loging on a couple of weeks back (Thanks Tel for the help) but has been a member since 2009 if you look at his profile so give him a break and if you are nice he may show you some pics of his models

Hi I would first like to introduce myself,I am a retired Engineer (Mechanical)I live in the north of the UK,I have been modelling since the age of13 and have over the years built various STEAM AND PETROL ENGINES SOME FROM CASTINGS others have been made from scratch and even a few from Drawings .I have recently completed a 4" scale Clayton & Shuttleworth Showmans engine ,I am now starting out to build 3" scale Foden Wagon of the 6 Ton dropsided lorry.I am at the stage of having the Boiler,Chassis, Brakes, and Steering completed,a start on the Hornplates and Crankshaft will be made soon. My other interest is Classic Cars of which I own several,and have in earlier years Rebuilt and Renovated several more.Anyone who is also building a model Foden I would like to hear from them so we mat pass on any info we have or Knowlege that has been obtained.With this final note I should like to say Hello to everyone and also a big Thank You to the Moderator of this site for accepting me so easily.

Welcome to the forum, don't know if you will find any fellow Foden builders here there are few enough who have/are making traction engines.

I'm sure you are aware of Alan Marshal's site of his Foden build and if you are not a member of Traction Talk Forum its worth joining as there are several with Fodens though more 4 1/2" and 6" than 3"

Hi Lee I am like yourself and I am building a 3" Foden Wagon,I have the Chassis ,Wheels ,Brakes and steering complete,I am busy with the horplates,and shall start the crankshaft shortly,at this stage I dont know of anyone having a set of gears available I do know of several Firms who will cut gears for you if you turn up the blanks,Beware gearcutting is Expensive although if you get several sets done together then the cost does drop, however I do not know where you live I live NE of UK!perhaps you can enlighten me of any that are ready made which might be cheaper?.As you know this design was by T Morriss later taken over by Reeves 2000 there info says information on this model was serialised in The Model Engineer VOL139 & 140, I have bought both but find that only up to Part 12 is in these ,Do you know why the series was never completed ? or do you know of another source of info on building this model if so I would like to hear from you .superlionb10
