Default Beam Engine

I've always wanted to build a beam engine but a career change/move to condo/selling off my shop left me somewhat at a loss. But thanks to Gerry Dykstra I found something (barely) machinable on my manual Sherline mill and lathe. The only significant change was to use the standard slide valve setup so that I could adjust the valve timing. Ken I's postings were also most helpful.

Here's it running: https://youtu.be/Us3efLlF-co

Abernat,

That looks like a good job. I have considered building this one "someday."

P.S.: Auto-correct tried to "fix" your ID to "aberrant." (Chuckle)

Wow, this looks great. I have the plans for this in my 'someday' file. Does the engine run slowly? I love an engine that turns slow and stately.

How slowly is mostly going to depend upon how well you machine the various parts and the tolerances you hold. Frankly I didn't worry about it too much but my engine will definitely rock slowly enough to clearly show off the linkage motion.
