Re: What can I scrounge smallish metal gears out of?
The cylindrical battery screwdrivers usually have a planetary gearbox with nice little metal gears in them.Same for batt.drills.
I second the photocopier idea, they also have lots of lovely small diameter shafting in them. Most of the gears tend to be a form of plastic though, and many are spiral or worm types.
When you say"smallish",how small are you looking for?
As a last resort, you might have to look at rc car gears.
Or,if that size is too small, how about a motorbike gearbox?Gears aplenty.
